About Los Alamos & White Rock, NM - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The sister towns of Los Alamos and White Rock are located in the northern portion of New Mexico. Both towns are located in Los Alamos County and the Town of Los Alamos serves as the seat of the county. In 2010, Los Alamos had a population of about 12,000 people. White Rock had a population of almost 6,100 people in 2000 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Original inhabitants of Los Alamos were the Keres-speaking Native Americans. Tewa settlers immigrated around 1300 and built large cities. Eventually, the Tewa settlers were driven away by Native American Indians of the Apache and Navajo tribes. In 1917, Harold H. Brook, who owned a large amount of the land where Los Alamos is located, sold portions of his land to an individual who began the Los Alamos Ranch School. The school was closed during World War II after the Department of War chose the location for the Manhattan Project. After the project was completed, the area was abandoned. However, in 1963 individuals began re-inhabiting Los Alamos and also White Rock which had been a temporary community for USFS workers, spurring the construction of homes and other buildings.
Los Alamos and White Rock are surrounded by the beautiful New Mexico wilderness.
